Press Release No. 349/HM/KOMINFO/08/2022,

Friday, August 26th, 2022

The Ministry of Communications and Informatics and the Financial Services Authority are strengthening cooperation in handling Electronic Systems and Electronic System Operators in the financial sector. Minister of Communication and Information Johnny G. Plate stated that the cooperation that had previously taken place would be enhanced with the new OJK Board of Commissioners as part of service to the community.

"There is a lot of cooperation that Kominfo has built with the Financial Services Authority in the past, so it needs to be continued and improved by the new OJK Board of Commissioners, including those related to handling illegal online loans, so we re-evaluate how to follow up. In principle, the Ministry of Kominfo supports the decisions that will be made by OJK," said Minister Johnny after a meeting with OJK Chairman Mahendra Siregar, at the Ministry of Kominfo Office, Central Jakarta, Friday (26/08/2022).

The Minister of Communication and Information emphasized that collaboration across ministries and institutions is important so that decisions can be made quickly and accurately as well as efforts to improve services to the community.

"President Joko Widodo has repeatedly said that a winning nation is a nation that has a strong desire to make decisions quickly and precisely. It's not about the size and size anymore, so we continue to mobilize and ensure that coordination and collaboration take place well for the protection of people's rights," he said.

Minister Johnny explained that the two parties discussed the registration of Electronic Systems and Electronic System Operators in the financial sector. According to him, registration is needed in order to protect consumer rights in Indonesia.

"This must also maintain good customer service. With registration, if there is a problem, we can handle it easily. Of course in the context of protecting consumer rights in Indonesia," he said.

Furthermore, Minister of Communication and Information Johnny G. Plate and OJK Chairman Mahendra Siregar discussed data governance in national jurisdictions and cross-border data. According to him, the cooperation between the Ministry of Communication and Information and OJK is to ensure that the system in the digital space runs well for all financial and banking microprudential activities.

"OJK as an authority in the financial services sector, law enforcement on the other hand by law enforcement officials, and how to protect resilience from cyber attacks. This is a routine thing that we do. Even though it is routinely done, there needs to be courtesy, meetings, and friendship between leaders," he said.

OJK Chairman Mahendra Siregar expressed his appreciation to Minister of Communication and Information Johnny G. Plate. According to him, efforts to strengthen the telecommunications and information system will make the Indonesian nation stronger because it is aimed at maintaining data sovereignty and also defense against cyber threats.

"From that perspective, we convey matters related to the needs and interests of technical and governance from the financial aspect (of the OJK) to synchronize the perspective of architectural design from the system aspect that was conveyed by the Minister of Communication and Information," he said.

Therefore, OJK Chairman Mahendra Siregar hopes that future cooperation between the Ministry of Communication and Information and OJK will be more synergistic.  "It can actually strengthen each other. That's what we really welcome is that today's discussion will be followed up at a more operational and technical level," he explained.

During the meeting, Minister of Communication and Information Johnny G. Plate was accompanied by Director General of Public Information and Communication Usman Kansong. Meanwhile, OJK Chairman Mahendra Siregar was accompanied by OJK Deputy Chairman Mirza Adityaswara.
